I was disappointed that she had no vision concerning the future of Ubuntu look and feel. I would of hoped that she could have articulated the overall vision for Ubuntu and what was on the cards for 10.10. I was pleased that she was going to look at the communication issue, when making changes that would affect users (position of buttons).

Good interview though! More please!

She talked for hours, and said nothing. She sounds like an under rehearsed politician.

She didn’t justify any of the new design or usability decisions. Every hard question was just defected into woolly discussion of her team or how problems are hard to solve and it’s impossible to explain…

She didn’t even try to answer the questions about why the buttons are on the left.

A master in the art of BS but ultimately a useless business-speak spouting drone.

Never had any luck with Kubuntu.
The cast comes off way more mature than the other Opensource/Linux podcast I have tried listening to (and I have listened to a lot of crap out there)

There are many nods to or direct copies of the OS X UI. I see this as being a GNOME design trend as much as an Ubuntu/Canonical one though.

Amused to find that the Cool-er is sold out at the moment – is this the UUPC effect in action? :-)

sudo !!

Something like “Ubuntu 10.04 is now out for Linux users around the world. Windows users please stay away or you run the risk of infection. Apple users are allowed if they get a special pass denouncing Steve Jobs and his wicked ways. Thank You.”

I was amazed myself by the unparalleled involvement that Canonical has demonstrated towards graphics design and usability. I mean they hired a whole dozen people solely for this. Can you imagine that ? I mean M$ probably has one or two and I bet even Apple doesn’t have more than five. And what are developers to do if they don’t have to think about usability anymore… if they can just ask an “expert” about it. It’s shocking I tell you.

Also real man structure tank (EVE Online joke *wink*)

I know it’s really annoying to get used to it but once you do you realize that most of your activity in a window is concentrated towards the upper left corner anyway. So having the buttons on the right is really a bad idea since you always have to move away from where you concentrate your mouse movements to minimize or close a window.

Disclaimer: I’m not a Mac user and I don’t like Mac OS for it’s lack of functionality.
